When I was younger some early social media tools, I used included platforms like Pinterest, snapchat, tik Tok, and YouTube. When I was younger on platforms like snapchat and Tik Tok I was only allowed to interact with people that I knew and that my parents knew so mainly friends and family for my personal online safety. I found this beneficial because these platforms were very entertaining and fun to play on and it was very convenient to talk to friends from school this way that I may only see during the week at school. In my future career I do not think these platforms will be helpful because I think they can be harmful for some students and it is inappropriate for teachers to be communicating with their students on these platforms.
Growing up I went to a primarily digitally rich school for elementary and middle school, and we had great technological access. In elementary school, each classroom had their own computer cart for when there were technological assignments and in middle school, every student had their own computer locker assigned to them with their personal computer to use at school. Based on the access to computers that I had in schools it would seem that I would be prepared for college technology, but I am not very good using it. My early experiences did help me with learning how to use platforms such as word and PowerPoint, but I wish I was shown how to use more advanced software and how to do more tech savvy stuff that I need in college.
In order to support collaborative writing and social annotation in my classroom, a good technology platform to use would be google docs. Google docs is a great way for students to use collaborative tools in order to work together on group writing assignments in order to give each other feedback. This tool would be a great way to foster learning is through allowing students to give their classmates feedback as well as allowing them to respond to that feedback. A lesson I might use to prepare students using google docs is a discussion style writing post based on the readings were students have to respond to a classmate's post giving them constructive feedback on their writing.
