The standard that I chose is SC.912.HS.3.1 and 3.2 focusing on computer science and digital footprints in schools. These standards discuss the importance of posts or comments on the internet being permanent as well as, social media influencing digital footprints, cultures, and communities. With my current skill set this is definitely something I am prepared to enforce in my school and classroom to educate my students about the importance. I think within high schools this is something many schools and students struggle with and it is something I value so I would do my best to educate students and apply it to our computer science lessons.
A resource I found in the CPALMS toolkit that would be helpful in a social studies class to teach valuable lessons is the community clean up case study. This lesson is for grade 3 and it teaches students the importance of volunteering in your community and how it connects to social studies. This toolkit focuses on these standards SS.3.CG.2.1 and HE.3. R.3.2 and supports these benchmarks ELA.3. V.1.1 and ELA.K12.EE.2.1. This is a great quick lesson involving social science and language arts that has text resources provided to use as instructional materials.
As a teacher in today's technology focused society, it is crucial to be able to use the internet to find things like lesson plans, fun assignments, and any information you need to back up your lessons in the classroom. In the modules it discusses how internet searching is good for day-to-day life and people are constantly looking up things like how late a specific store is open. I think another internet searching skill that could be used for teaching in the classroom is generative AI that we have discussed in a previous week. Through internet searching you can look for generative designs whether its flyers, activities, or assignments and use these in your classroom.
